Arrival at the Leh Kushok Bakula Airport (experience one of the most sensational flights in the world). On a clear day during the flight, you will see in the distance the peaks of K2, Nanga Parbat & Gasherbrum on one side and on the other side of the aircraft is the Nun Kun Massif. Check in at the Leh hotel and rest for the day.
After breakfast, drive down to Hemis Gompa (the largest monastic foundation of Drukpa Kagyu Order of Tibetan Buddhism) and witness the daily routines of the monks. Experience the sunset from the Hemis Monastery and chant among the monks of the Himalayas. Stay overnight at the monastery and experience the evening and night routines of the monastery and the monks.
Experience the peaceful morning prayers, chanting and meditation at the monastery and live the life of the monk for one morning. Then, start the sightseeing by proceeding towards the Alchi Monastery, Ladakh’s oldest and most loved monastery. Then, enroute visit the Likir Gompa situated atop a windy cliff overlooking the beautiful village of Likir Situated to the west of the town of Leh. Built by Translator, Rinchen Zangpo, it dates back to the year 1000 AD.
Alchi Gompa in Ladakh comprises of a number of blessed temples, including the main one of Rinchen Lhakhang at Lotsa Lhakhang. The other temples are the Jamyang Lhakhang (Manjusri temple) and the Sumtsag Lhakhang. Alchi Monastery of Leh Ladakh reflects an Indian touch, especially in its paintings. End the day by checking in at the Leh hotel and having an early dinner at the hotel.
After breakfast, leave for Tsomoriri. A comfortable journey along the Indus upstream till Mahey Bridge passing through many small villages. At Mahey we cross the Indus to the right and re-enter a narrow gorge. It’s a picturesque drive to Tsomoriri. Camp the night at the Korzok village next to the lake. Enjoy the beautiful evening walk around the Tsomoriri. Stay overnight at the camp.
Early morning again visit the lake for the sunrise. After breakfast, drive to Tsokar. We return on the same route for about 50 kilometres, at Sumdah-a small Tibetan settlement we turn left passing through the Puga valley. You will have chance to see many birds at Puga. From here drive on to cross a small pass and than reach Tsokar Lake. Tsokar is a small salt lake. The nomad of this area used to Trade in rock salt extracted from Tsokar. Overnight in Camp.
After a visit to the lake and the breakfast, we drive on west to the Leh-Manali highway, from here turn left on the Mor-E plan and than ascend to Taglanglha pass. From here, we drive to Upshi and towards Leh.
Have a good breakfast and spend the morning to energize yourself and acclimatize to the Ladakh region. This is followed by a visit to the Leh marketplace. You can choose to have dinner either in the marketplace at a reputed restaurant or at the hotel.
Post breakfast, we drive to the famous Nubra Valley. The road journey from Leh to Nubra Valley passes over the Khardung La pass. This is the highest motorable road in the world at 5,602 metres / 18,390 feet, around 39 kms from Leh. From the pass, one can see all the way south over the Indus Valley. Endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range and the giants of Saser Massif are clearly visible. The terrain keeps changing every 30 minutes and each turn takes you deeper into the mountains to finally reach the valley at the centre. Nubra Valley is popularly known as Ldumra or the valley of flowers. It is situated in the north of Ladakh between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges of the Himalayas. The average altitude of the valley is 10,000 ft. above sea level.
Upon arrival in Nubra, check-in at the hotel in Hunder for overnight stay. In the evening, you can walk around the tiny villages to see how the locals live in this part of the world. You can also ride on a two-humped camel amidst the sand dunes of this high altitude desert with snow-capped mountains on the horizon and also be part of the Ladakhi folk dance show. End the day with dinner at the hotel.
After having a sumptuous and warm breakfast, start the journey back to Leh. Between Hunder and Leh, you come across sand dunes beside the road. Seen in isolation, you could well be amongst the sand dunes of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan. It is indeed a strange sight since immediately on the left of the road are the rocky mountains that characterise the Ladakhi landscape and in the distance can be seen snow-capped mountains. On the return, stop at Diskit which is the headquarter town of Nubra Valley. Stroll around the bazaar observing the shops and local people going about their daily chores. Diskit is famous for its 515 years old Buddhist Monastery, magnificently situated on a hilltop, facing the entire valley. An ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) ride amidst the sand dunes is a must for all the thrill-seeking travellers. Later, we drive back to Leh in the late afternoon via the Khardung La pass. On arrival at Leh, check-in at the hotel and end the day with dinner of your choice.
