Arrival at the Leh Kushok Bakula Airport (this perhaps is one of the most sensational flights in the world). On a clear day during the flight, you will see in the distance the peaks of K2, Nanga Parbat & Gasherbrum on one side and on the other side of the aircraft is the Nun Kun Massif. Upon arrival at the airport, you will met by a Triyana host, who will assist you for transfers to the hotel, check-ins, etc. You will be served welcome drinks, and then the complete first day will be for your resting and leisure at the hotel itself. This is done to help you acclimatise faster to Ladakh!
After breakfast, drive downstream along the River Indus on the Leh – Kargil Highway. Start the sightseeing with the Hall Of Fame (Museum constructed by the India Army). It is very near Leh and is worth a visit for every Indian! Proceed further to the Gurudwara Patthar Sahib at an altitude of 3600 meters which is about 22 kms from Leh. This was constructed in the memory of Guru Nanak Dev ji and is nestled deep in the Himalayas. A drive for another 4 kms takes us to the Magnetic Hill which defies the laws of gravity. As you move ahead from Magnetic Hill, just before Nimmu Village, there comes the famous Confluence of Two Rivers – Indus River coming from Tibet (left) and Zanskar River coming from Zanskar Valley (right).
After this, we head towards the Alchi Monastry which is Ladakh’s most loved monastery. Then, drive back to Leh and enroute visit the Likir Gompa situated atop a windy cliff top overlooking the beautiful village of Likir. Reach the hotel and end the day with an early dinner.
After breakfast, proceed to experience Indus Valley monasteries starting with the Thiksey Monastery. It is an impressive complex rising tier upon tier on a hill above the village. Then, proceed to the the 3 Idiots Rancho School. Head back to the hotel in Leh by 3 p.m. Rest of the day is for you to spend at your leisure. Explore the Leh Market. Have early snacks and dinner at the hotel or outside at a reputable restaurant to end the day.
After an early breakfast, leave for the breath taking terrains that led to the mesmerising Pangong Lake. Drive through the famous Changla Pass situated at an altitude of 5486 meters. Stop at the Changla Pass for a quick photography session and drive down to the village of Tangtse, where you can relax for a warm & relaxing cup of tea. Leaving Tangtse for Pangong, you pass through few small villages of Changthang and a lovely terrain. Then, through the winding and scenic route, finally you get the first glimpses of the beautiful Pangong Lake, which is situated at 14,000 feet (4,267 meters) above the sea level. This famous blue brackish Lake of Pangong is 5/6 kms wide and over 133 kms long, with half of it running on the other side of the “Indo-China Border”. One rarely feels so close to nature and environment and the scenery is unforgettable. After the success of 3 Idiots, this beautiful natural location has attracted more tourists from all over the world. Upon arrival, we check-in at our camp near the Pangong lake, which is cosy and extremely comfortable. Experience the lake front, the blue & clear waters, the magical sunset and the glaciers visible on the mountains which surround the entire lake on all sides. End the day with a warm dinner and night stay in the camps on the banks of the lake.
Early morning, experience the beautiful sunrise at the lake front and spend time to explore the beauty of the lake and mountain ranges surrounding it. Click lots of photographs and do leisure walks around the breath taking lake side. Have breakfast and lunch at the camp, and then head towards Nubra Valley.
The terrain keeps changing every 30 minutes and each turn takes you deeper into the mountains to finally reach the valley at the center. Nubra Valley is popularly known as Ldumra or the valley of flowers. It is situated in the north of Ladakh between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges of the Himalayas. The average altitude of the valley is 10,000 ft. above sea level.
Upon arrival in Nubra, check-in at the hotel in Hunder for overnight stay. In the evening, you can walk around the tiny villages to see how the locals live in this part of the world. You can also ride on a two-humped camel amidst the sand dunes of this high altitude desert with snow-capped mountains on the horizon and also be part of the Ladakhi folk dance show. End the day with dinner at the hotel.
After having a sumptuous and warm breakfast, start the journey back to Leh. Between Hunder and Leh, you come across sand dunes beside the road. Seen in isolation, you could well be amongst the sand dunes of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan. It is indeed a strange sight since immediately on the left of the road are the rocky mountains that characterise the Ladakhi landscape and in the distance can be seen snow-capped mountains. The road journey from Nubra to Leh passes over the Khardung La pass. This is the highest motorable road in the world at 5,602 metres / 18,390 feet, around 39 kms from Leh. From the pass, one can see all the way south over the Indus Valley. Endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range and the giants of Saser Massif are clearly visible. On the return, stop at Diskit which is the headquarter town of Nubra Valley. Stroll around the bazaar observing the shops and local people going about their daily chores. Diskit is famous for its 515 years old Buddhist Monastery, magnificently situated on a hilltop, facing the entire valley. An ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) ride amidst the sand dunes is a must for all the thrill-seeking travellers.
Later, we drive back to Leh in the late afternoon via the Khardung La pass. On arrival at Leh, check-in at the hotel. Spend the evening at Shanti Stupa and end the day with dinner.
